Answering a somewhat rhetorical question:
Colleague: What are you doing here so late?
Me: Um..wait, what are you doing here so late?
Might as well answer a question with a question since there's no right way to answer that without sounding bitter and confrontational. :) It's not right, but you still got to do what you have to.
