Lemon says that people are friends with each other because there is always something that the other person needs from you. Be this need be in a form of friendship, feedback, or company. Like many girls I know, we can relate this to the lives of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda. Not to say that we are like them per se, but perhaps our friendships can parallel theirs (hello, they meet up to dish and eat anything sinful - yeah, we do the same, with cosmos...ok, any drink can do..plus, we would love to own Carrie's collection of shoes!) But I'm sure there lies a bit of each of them in each of us...the extremities of the traits depends on what is happening to us on any given day. Big, we want the mister variety at most times, but at least we know we want one. Mr. Big, the guy we watched Carrie obsess over, love, want to hate, miss, and in the end, get. The guy we wonder if he was deserving of her affections or vice versa. The guy who poses a big question mark.
The 'Big(s)' in our lives can affect each of us in differently. These are the unexplainables and ultimately gives us a lot of questions (and frustrations because we are clueless--I can admit I am)..well, b/c they are unexplainable ;) There's never really only one Big that crosses your path. But they are the one(s) that can make your heart skip a beat or stop, and then you have to remind yourself to breathe. Usually I find myself to be somewhat sociable/talkative, but a Big sighting can render me speechless. It has happened a couple times when "he" walked up to me and nothing comes out of my mouth. It's like an out-of-body experience, not that I had any, but it's like my brain leaves my body...and I just clam up. I probably gave the wrong impression but there was nothing I could control. If only he knew what I was really thinking. If only I could be Samantha for one tiny second.Okay, I miss Sex and the City...I miss the question "Carrie" poses about what "we" think in all kinds of situations. I also miss the answers that arrive after each episode. Yeah, if everything was that easy (and all I have to do is watch TV for all of life's answers--no time!)....but then, there'd be no fun and no new mysteries to unravel with Mr. Big.
Believe it or not, I am still training for my half-marathon (...did I have a choice? Militant A is pretty persistant. I do not believe in half-finishing something and since I've signed up, might as well go big or die trying--oh, the possibilities of going this route but that's another entry.) and I've decided to add yoga to stretch out my super weak muscles...hehe. Militant A insists I use 8lbs for free weights but my little muscles were shaking like crazy!!
I've done Bikrams Yoga almost four years ago and one thing I did not miss was the smell...but after awhile, you do get used to it because what you need to worry about is how to breathe in such a hot room. The instructors keep telling you to concentrate and "stay in the room" but sometimes I do just want to imagine I'm lying on a beach in Hawaii.
Today during class, it felt super hot and I knew I was not able to hold all the poses. It's like the instructor knew because he started to "pick" on me. I know he was just trying to correct my form, but I sure was focussing right after. The one pose that I wasn't sure I needed correction on was this one. It is called the "wind removing pose". The instructor basically straddled me and sat on my knees. Yeah...a little too close for comfort and my mind needed to "wander out of the room."
Wanting to celebrate a holiday that's not customary a tradition for myself, I invited a few friends to see what it's like to drink green beer and go in search of the lucky leprechaun. As the evening begins with a pitstop at Lemon's for a usual 'update-&-unwind' over a beverage, there were little signs that we should have looked out for. The wine was called Road 13 - "oh, a white? I'm not usually a fan of white, but why not...hey, it's kinda yummy"- first clue of the night. (Work emergencies and dinner delays all added to the mix.)Lemon: You can park in the underground and we'll just walk to the pub when the girls get here.Me: Hey lucky us! Parking spot on the street right outside your building, it will save the walk underground later at the end of the night.Lemon: That's true. Okay, let's go.A few missed phone calls and we lost a recruit to the festivities. Oops. We go find the remainng girls outside the pubs and first thing I get is a pinch from a fast moving Chun Li ;). Before I could even protest that I indeed was wearing green (no one needs to know where), it was too late. Next thing we know, even all the dive bars had lineups and the one place we managed to walk into, no tables and people were staring at us noting the non-Irish genetics of all the four girls. Hunger was starting to growl and girls who are hungry, please do not mess.Lemon: Hmmm...what about eye candy at Rodneys? Chun Li: Oooh..yeah...good idea! I can do that. A summary of the waiter plus a few forgotten moments can be found here in Lemon's memories. At an oyster bar, we should have some oysters. (Raw or pan-fried, it was all yummy.) The waiter kept insisting we drink a wine called "Oyster Bay"...what are the chances. A line on their menu said that they have bread and all we had to do was ask. We do. They were out of bread. How can a restaurant be out of bread??? We needed something to balance the wine as it was definitely getting to us. We tried to take a picture of a "white boy" holding a jar of their "white boy soul sauce"..hmm..I do not think the white boy knew what he was holding as after a few snaps, he decided to drop the jar in favor of the girls. Darn, the flash did not work. Hmm..please no more wine, I need to drive.Chun Li decides we should go to karaoke (say what?)...ok, please more wine and Lemon has offered for us to crash at her pad for the evening. (Hmm..pondering, but still have to work in the morning...we shall figure out later.) The waiter drops off a free bottle of the wine "please drink it fast before I get in trouble"...ok girls...do we pass up FREE? (note to self: yes..we do next time.) AND, bread miraculously appears...it may have been the verbal threats but we enjoy what's in front of us: good company, good wine...however not enough food.Lemon decides to call out some people to make it more the merrier. Beer Goggles show up but may be doubting if he should answer the phone next time the phone rings (caller ID...what did we do without it? The next morning - ok, less than 5 hrs later - is when we realized what this is: drunk calling. The ironic part of it is, it's my phone and I wasn't even doing the calling.). Bonbon decides that dancing would be more fun...so off we all headed to Caprice with nary a complaint (I don't recall regardless.) The dancing was fun. My phone was taken from me yet again. "Will you girls stop that!?!" The extra shot of tequila and JD was not unwelcome but in my state, no additions required. At this point, I'm sure I was starting to see four-leaf clovers. Chun Li and Bonbon, they were definitely in a state of their own. Lemon, well, she was close to looking like the girl who was sitting or slouched over the stool to my left. After I tried to poke her to see if she's okay, I turned around and then she disappeared. The girl, not Lemon. Homeward-bound and Beer Goggles was nice enough to give us all a lift home. Lucky him. Four girls...pretty drunk. Hope none of us throw up in his car. Can anyone tell him where we live? No clue. Actually, I have no clue on what happened from the club to home.Me: Why did I not park in the underground Lemon? I have to get here at 9am before the start of the meter parking? It is 7:45 amLemon: Hellooooo.....why am I feeling like this? Why did we drink so much? Why do you sound so normal?Me: Oh, I'm feeling ok..so far...do you not have to get ready for work soon?Lemon: It is Saturday...Me: OH..wait, darn, it's me! Shoot, I have to get up and go to work!Lemon: The world is spinning...how did we get home?I could not stop laughing as I tried to recollect the events and at the same time, wondering if I did feel okay and what would happen if I sat up on my bed. Lemon: Did we walk around a lot last night?Me: What do you mean?Lemon: My feet and legs really hurt from the club.Me: Oh, haha..well, I think we did laps around the place, that's for sure. Gee, I thought we wanted mellow and chill? What happened? Lemon: Ums...free wine.So green beer will have to wait another year.
I love this quote from Lemon: You need caffeine like the way I need a dose of bitchy in the morning.
So while driving downhill and within speed limits with Jezzola, an idiotic guy in a SUV decides to make a left-hand turn in front of me. That was the closest thing to a head-on collision that I would ever want to see. His passenger door sure looked white and too close for comfort. Thank goodness for ABS (sorta..I pressed on the breaks for dear life and hoped to a higher power that I will not hear the sound of metal crunching). Jezzola was surprised that I did not honk him one bit as it would have been 100% his fault. I just wanted to make sure that we were okay and I just did not have the time in the schedule to deal with the crap that follows an accident. I think a list of profanities did escape my mouth already...candy also helped calm the nerves.
A friend wanted to introduce his new girlfriend to the rest of his 'girlfriends'...and so we decided to open up a can of worms...and he's like "well, my life is an open book"...at the same time, his hand gestures were more along the lines of slamming the book shut! hehe...and that I might add, was with a big fat thud for emphasis! ;)
Since we've been having more client meetings lately, our first or last stop of the day will be to any neighborhood Starbucks; there's got to be something in their coffee with addiction qualities! ;) But besides their coffee is their countertop of tempting pastries. All girls love to see the words "reduced fat, low fat etc"...it helps to alleviate the so-called guilty conscience of indulgence. So while we were browsing their new additions, jezzola mentioned that she loves the new "reduced fat" coffee cakes...and then our analytical brain goes into effect while we were savoring one of these one day..."How come this is the 3rd of the size of a regular coffee cake YET it costs the same?""...mmm...this is so yummy....WAIT...is this reduced fat because it IS a 3rd of the size???""....awwww shiiiiiat!!!""oh well, guess we should just get the regular one NEXT time and share it!" :)
hmm...I was about to write about things that are important to me in my prince charming...then I read what I had previously written to a friend and realized it is quite personal and not something I should tell yet...the world just gotta wait...i'll just keep it to stories on other interesting things :)..but will add this quote from a friend "do you want alone time?" haha...cracks me up when i think of it and how i felt at that moment.
